The US House of Representatives has passed the GI Bill Tuition Fairness Act (H.R. 357), a bipartisan piece of legislation that would improve veterans benefits regarding education, and vocational and job training.

On Tuesday, I sent this letter to President Obama requesting that he join the fight against Proposition 8, which will soon be before the Supreme Court.

I know that if you stand with me,  we can and will meet the challenges that lie ahead.

Families that work long hours to make ends meet, young people attending college, older Americans looking for security in their retirement years, and the soldiers fighting to protect our nation aren’t dependent victims looking for a handout, they’re proud Americans doing their part to keep our nation moving forward.

Today, we continue to remember the brave men and women who responded to the September 11 attacks. So many of them gave their lives to save those of strangers, and all will forever remain true examples of courage and heroism.

I’m in this race to bring good-paying jobs, new opportunities and good schools to Riverside County. Building that future will require careful, thought out choices. Tonight, it was made clear that the Romney-Tavaglione agenda is the wrong choice for Riverside.

When he spoke to the Republican Convention, why did Paul Ryan try to hide the truth about his signature policy proposal? Perhaps because he knows his plan to end Medicare as we know it to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and businesses that ship American jobs overseas is extreme, dangerous and wrong.

I’ll stand up against the Romney-Ryan agenda because it’s bad for the people of Riverside County. I’m proud to be endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and will never support any plan to dismantle those essential programs.

It’s clear to anyone paying attention that our Congress is broken. Today, I’m announcing the first part of my plan to end the special interest stranglehold in Washington.
